<br />
Last year I applied to get into a diploma course for enrolled nursing. The slight problem with this course is that it is on the other side of the country. I currently live in Melbourne, and the course is in Perth.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.wilsonsalmanac.com/images1/aust_usa_map.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="222" src="http://www.wilsonsalmanac.com/images1/aust_usa_map.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Semi-related pic is semi-related.<br />
<br />
So getting into said course means only one thing - moving!<br />
<br />
I fly out of Victoria on the 31st of January - about a week from now - and my course starts on the 4th of February. Because I am returning to study, I have made the decision to close my books and stop working on tack while I'm over there.<br />
<br />
The course runs for 18 months, but who knows - I might end up with a job afterwards and stay there for a little while. So at this stage I can't predict when my books will reopen or when I will be back to making tack again.<br />
<br />
This blog might get updated if I attend horse shows and have photos to share, but pretty much you should expect it to go quiet. If you add it to your RSS reader you will be notified of any new posts, though!<br />
<br />
Thanks to everyone for their support and hose who have ordered from me up until now - it saddens me to stop making tack for such a long period, but in the meantime I hope to build up a lo of inspiration for my return! I've been truckin' along on a very exciting project that I hope to share with you soon. Until then, have a rundown on the event Australian Stock Horse Time Trials.<br />
<br />
Back in November I headed to Equitana with Lisa W (okay okay, I piggy-backed with her as I had to go pick something up). Since I don't have a horse, want a horse, or ride, I spent the majority of my time there watching the demos/events rather than prowling the exhibition for bargains (although I did get one - more on that later). The two events I saw were the mounted games (that's for another post), and the State of Origin ASH Time Trials. I was especially interested in this event as I had never seen it before. I had a vague idea of what it involved (an Australian version of arena trail, with ASHs) but no real details.<br />
<br />
At Equitana, the ASH Time Trials were held in the outdoor arena. As it was the last event of a four-day-long event (complete with barrel racing and mounted games) in that arena, the ground was pretty torn to shreds!<br />
<br />
The Time Trial class is a test of a horse's ability and tractability. They were originally designed as a competition in times of cattle shortage. For a frame of reference, it's a bit like a trail class, except that it is timed, with time penalties for breaking pace in particular areas, knocking down or knocking over a peg or obstacle, etc. The time serves as the base for the score, and penalities are added (if there are any). All modern patterns with have sections that have to be completed at a walk and at a trot, and the rest of the pattern can be completed at any gait (canter is by far the most common).<br />
<br />
The obstacles in this event should reflect only those found in the bush or country. Hessian walls, tarps, the act of backing through rails etc are not obstacles usually encountered. While they may reflect the horse's ability to accept unusual elements, they do not necessarily test a horse's ability to perform manoeuvres at a fast pace - which is what the time trial is all about.<br />
<br />
(Thanks to the <a href="http://www.ashs.com.au/" target="_blank">Aust Stock Horse Society</a> rulebook for much of the information above.) <br />
<br />
So, onto the event at Equitana, in photos.<br />
<br />
The obstacles on this course included a gate, a small jump, two barrels, and a couple of sets of pegs to be woven around. I did look in my ASH Pattern book, but couldn't find the exact pattern used here, so you'll just have to use your imagination. ;) <br />
<br />
The course:<br />

<br />
The competitors in this event were two each from South Australia (green), Victoria (cream), New South Wales (dark blue) and Queensland (I think) (red). They were identified by their solid-coloured shirts. All the horses in this competition were purebred ASHs. (I don't know if the event is open to crossbreds or other breeds.) The competitors, eight in total, filed in and did a lap of the arena, and then lined up at the far end of the arena.<br />
<br />
One by one, they were called down to the start end for their turn, where they circled their horse a little at a walk to settle them.<br />
<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YS9A3rEdm20/UNQ4kHGFFaI/AAAAAAAACN8/RcIM0QmlK0s/s1600/DSC_5643.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-YS9A3rEdm20/UNQ4kHGFFaI/AAAAAAAACN8/RcIM0QmlK0s/s1600/DSC_5643.JPG" width="320" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
(Since Equitana draws a large number of horsey people from different disciplines, they had a commentator in the arena, who interviewed some of the riders before and after their round.)</div>
<br />
As the first part of the pattern (through the timers to the gate) was the walk, having a settled and relaxed horse was very important! Breaking from the walk would result in penalties from the judges. They passed through the timers and headed to the first obstacle, being very careful to stay at the walk.<br />

As soon as the rider touched the first obstacle, the gate, the horse was allowed to break gait. The riders then opened the gate and passed through as quickly as they could...<br />

There were a couple of horses who slipped and fell in the torn-up ground at this obstacle. <br />

Once over the log, they had to turn around the peg again and head towards the next obstacle, which was a set of barrels.<br />

<br />
And then it was a short jaunt to the next obstacle on the far side of the arena. Because of my position I wasn't able to get a great idea of what this obstacle was - I think it involved a couple of potted samplings and perhaps a ground pole. I didn't manage to get any photos of it that looked half-decent, either.<br />
<br />
After that, the final obstacle (of which I also didn't have a good idea of what it involved from where I was sitting) included a very small jump, some quick weaving, and then a trot through the last two pegs (potted saplings) back to the judge.<br />

It was very important to bring the horse back to a trot before passing through the final two pegs, as they were the marker for the gait change.<br />

<br />
Then back through the timers to complete the course. (My pics of this have disappeared...)<br />
<br />
<br />
The riders did two rounds, but I didn't have time to stay for most of the second round. I did find out later that the cute buckskin won the event!<br />
<br />I hope you enjoyed this journey through an ASH Time Trial course! I definitely learnt about a new event by watching it and then going through the photos afterwards for this post.Daniellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604038874152094100noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8926691029122915071.post-80330299016060120032012-11-20T16:00:00.000+11:002012-11-20T16:00:10.875+11:00Draft tackRemember how a few weeks ago, I received a Stone Drafter in the mail, and I called him Monster because he was so big?<br />
<br />
He is so big that I had to order in new lace just to fit his big noggin!<br />
<br />
I'll back track a little bit. I answered a Wanted posted on MHSP for some draft tack - a halter and a bridle, and when the cutomer decided to work with me, dutifully went out and bought Mr Stone Drafter so I wouldn't have to work from measurements.<br />
<br />
While the customer came up with her final decision for her order, I messed around with my leather to see what I could get to fit him. I knew part of the order would involve white lace, so I got experimenting with different sizes.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, the only two white sizes I had in stock were 3mm (1/8") and 8mm (5/16"). The 3mm by itself wasn't going to work, as I dislike the two-piece crownpiece some hobbyists use. I thought I would be smart and trim the 8mm down to 6mm, and attach 3mm straps to it for the cheekpieces and throatlatch.<br />
<br />
Unsurprisingly, it was too big!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-T7dVZYCAw5k/UKbgz3vg7ZI/AAAAAAAACC0/KdjnDi8f2Ws/s1600/drafthalters1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-T7dVZYCAw5k/UKbgz3vg7ZI/AAAAAAAACC0/KdjnDi8f2Ws/s1600/drafthalters1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Frustrated, I put it aside and dug around in my leather bag. The customer by then had decided she wanted a bridle in a shade of brown, so I started to work on that. Luckily for me, I had brown in 4.5mm (3/16") width! I figured that if I could use that for the crownpieces, I could use regular 2mm for the cheekpieces and throatlatch. The difference in width between them would be less than a 1mm, so I figured I could pull it off.<br />
<br />
And pull it off I did!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ySidsevSsOo/UKbiKO3OQdI/AAAAAAAACDU/THUw-M9VXrw/s1600/gb-bridle-a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="316" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-ySidsevSsOo/UKbiKO3OQdI/AAAAAAAACDU/THUw-M9VXrw/s1600/gb-bridle-a.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is 'brandy' coloured lace, darkened with leather conditioner. (The conditioner hadn't fully set in by this point so the colouring is a little wonky.) With the 2mm straps I could still use the B6 buckles from Rio Rondo (funnily enough, Rio Rondo says those buckles are for 3/32" lace (2mm), but I normally use them on 3mm lace). I did fix that wonky browband hole too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qOPh-8xzqTk/UKbiMxKk7DI/AAAAAAAACDc/b7_9_GneQlE/s1600/gb-bridle-b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-qOPh-8xzqTk/UKbiMxKk7DI/AAAAAAAACDc/b7_9_GneQlE/s1600/gb-bridle-b.jpg" width="287" /></a></div>
<br />
I was very pleased with how it came out - but it didn't resolve my issue for making a piece from white leather, as I didn't have it in 4.5mm width. I whinged on Blab a bit but eventually caved and bought a 10m hank (at ~$25). I don't think I could have completed this order if I didn't order that leather!<br />
<br />
At first I tried to copy the brown bridle, and use 2mm on the cheekpieces and throatlatch, and a 3mm browband and noseband, and cut the straps from the crownpiece right up the middle. But it didn't look right.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-J7Ah7-_mjyM/UKbg2G1sfdI/AAAAAAAACC8/oHtJT9VQ8Os/s1600/drafthalters2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-J7Ah7-_mjyM/UKbg2G1sfdI/AAAAAAAACC8/oHtJT9VQ8Os/s1600/drafthalters2.jpg" width="278" /></a></div>
<br />
(Ignore the chain derp, haha).<br />
<br />
I went back and did some more research, and found some pictures of Belgians wearing white halters that had thicker cheekpieces, but their throatlatches were narrower. Lightbulb!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://blog.mlive.com/citpat/news_impact/2009/08/large_SP_DRAFTHORSES.jpg.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://blog.mlive.com/citpat/news_impact/2009/08/large_SP_DRAFTHORSES.jpg.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
So I went back, partially pulled apart what I had made of the white halter, and gave it 3mm cheekpieces. Then, with a new crownpiece, I cut the straps off centre. The straps for the cheekpiece are now closer to 3mm, and the strap for the throatlatch is closer to 2mm. When put together with a throatlatch made from 2mm lace, I got the picture I was after!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DxKd_Ich1J8/UKbg4nQLruI/AAAAAAAACDE/N7yy35ZvZ8o/s1600/gb-halter-2a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-DxKd_Ich1J8/UKbg4nQLruI/AAAAAAAACDE/N7yy35ZvZ8o/s1600/gb-halter-2a.jpg" width="292" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--lVzPnKkCSg/UKbg6nOyiCI/AAAAAAAACDM/CJz7waumBf8/s1600/gb-halter-2b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/--lVzPnKkCSg/UKbg6nOyiCI/AAAAAAAACDM/CJz7waumBf8/s1600/gb-halter-2b.jpg" width="303" /></a></div>
<br />
The cheekpieces could theoretically be a smidge shorter and the browband a touch shorter too, but right now they are good as-is.<br />
<br />
The real reason for this lengthy post is to let you know I have a surprise about draft tack to share with you in a few days. :D I don't think anyone will care aside from me, but I am super excited, so I will be sharing it with you anyway - so stay tuned!Daniellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604038874152094100noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8926691029122915071.post-13982679465774110832012-11-19T19:23:00.002+11:002012-11-19T19:23:33.825+11:00It followed me home, Mum...... Can we keep it? :D<br />

<br />
Unfortunately this big boy is only here for a short stay, just long enough to get some new clothes of the leather kind. He is one of Karen Grigson's newest projects, and I don't think he has a name as yet. (He's not finished, so ignore the paint marks from Equitana, hehe).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Yu75fbQ2n_4/UKnqbexmiQI/AAAAAAAACJc/70aqEXh6f0s/s1600/DSC_5810.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-Yu75fbQ2n_4/UKnqbexmiQI/AAAAAAAACJc/70aqEXh6f0s/s1600/DSC_5810.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Isn't he fantastic? I can't believe he started out as the bubble-butt Belgian! Check out those fuzzy ears - and that beard!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-reaKPJoIeTY/UKnqtuuvNRI/AAAAAAAACJs/lS0tIJX8dVQ/s1600/DSC_5812.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-reaKPJoIeTY/UKnqtuuvNRI/AAAAAAAACJs/lS0tIJX8dVQ/s1600/DSC_5812.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Karen has given me almost-free rein on the stallion rig I am to make for him. Luckily, with Shires there is lots of variety - so I have a tough choice ahead of me! I do know he is going to look absolutely swish all dressed up.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ofycKih0AvU/UKnqkc4v-WI/AAAAAAAACJk/JKVBmTDzFVo/s1600/DSC_5811.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-ofycKih0AvU/UKnqkc4v-WI/AAAAAAAACJk/JKVBmTDzFVo/s1600/DSC_5811.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />I don't know what colour his flights (ribbons) will be, so I can't do a snazzy set with coloured nylon like this<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zvIoqHgKXeY/UKnlZgua32I/AAAAAAAACGg/u0HtUb0323M/s1600/stallionrig-clydesdale1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="221" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-zvIoqHgKXeY/UKnlZgua32I/AAAAAAAACGg/u0HtUb0323M/s1600/stallionrig-clydesdale1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
or swish coloured leather inserts like this: <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SHjhxMR8vw4/UKnlamGuoMI/AAAAAAAACGo/tJc4fcCm8vo/s1600/stallionrig-shire11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="254" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-SHjhxMR8vw4/UKnlamGuoMI/AAAAAAAACGo/tJc4fcCm8vo/s1600/stallionrig-shire11.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Mrwx5l9KFhU/UKnmfkj0A1I/AAAAAAAACHs/96R-d4v6pWI/s1600/stallionrig-shire22.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="241" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-Mrwx5l9KFhU/UKnmfkj0A1I/AAAAAAAACHs/96R-d4v6pWI/s1600/stallionrig-shire22.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />(To be fair, I don't think my leather skills are good enough to pull off a bridle like that!)<br />
<br />
But there are still plenty of other options. I could go American-style:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EIMGdjJeGLM/UKnlgKRrNzI/AAAAAAAACGw/YDlJg7tFEhc/s1600/stallionrig-shire14.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-EIMGdjJeGLM/UKnlgKRrNzI/AAAAAAAACGw/YDlJg7tFEhc/s1600/stallionrig-shire14.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
or give it lots of bling.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BdF6-ICbDqs/UKnllg01HbI/AAAAAAAACHA/E6Hwjz8nnqw/s1600/stallionrig-shire17.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="217" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-BdF6-ICbDqs/UKnllg01HbI/AAAAAAAACHA/E6Hwjz8nnqw/s1600/stallionrig-shire17.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I could go a little bit plain and workman-like,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--Fsy2KQ8-js/UKnlpsXXizI/AAAAAAAACHQ/k217OgOSR_o/s1600/stallionrig-shire29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/--Fsy2KQ8-js/UKnlpsXXizI/AAAAAAAACHQ/k217OgOSR_o/s1600/stallionrig-shire29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
or somewhere in between.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pCOy6KPu8wI/UKnlis-DRPI/AAAAAAAACG4/PMIDmouujrk/s1600/stallionrig-shire16.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="221" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-pCOy6KPu8wI/UKnlis-DRPI/AAAAAAAACG4/PMIDmouujrk/s1600/stallionrig-shire16.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It's so hard to choose! Sure you don't want to choose for me, Karen?<br />

<br />
Over the weekend, it was my stitchmarker that caught my wrath. What I have at the moment is the <a href="http://www.excelhobbyblades.com/product_info.php?cPath=56&products_id=260&osCsid=9f5ba23d73ae6e907fb13f9ca3652b69" target="_blank">Excel brand 5/16" pounce wheel</a>. It isn't too shabby, getting 21 dots per inch, but I know other hobbyists have found wheels that do more dots. (I believe some may do their stitchmarks by hand - I don't have the patience for that!) There was that one on MHSP one time that the seller said did 45 dots per inch! So I knew they were out there.<br />
<br />
I scoured ebay for all the alternative names of a pounce wheel that I could think of - pattern marker, pattern wheel, ponce wheel (sometimes it's misspelled), tracing wheel, spike wheel - nothing I found came any smaller than what I already had. So next I turned to Google.<br />
<br />
I often use google image search to help me find an international product, and to cut a long story short, I discovered some pictures that looked like stitchmark comparisons, and stumbled across a forum on the model plane hobby. On a particular thread, some forum members discussed making rivets (basically the hole/area/thing on the metal sheets used to make the planes). One of the members mentioned using 'Rosie the Riveter' - basically a glorified pounce wheel, but made with the wheels from watches and clocks to make smaller rivets. How clever!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.nps.gov/pwro/collection/website/rosie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.nps.gov/pwro/collection/website/rosie.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<i>Apparently this is also 'Rosie the Riveter', according to google. </i><br />
<br />
<br />
Unfortunately they are hand made by some guy in the Czech Republic, and though I found a <a href="http://umm-usa.com/onlinestore/product_info.php?products_id=54" target="_blank">US dealer</a>, they are more expensive than I was willing to spend. So I kept looking.<br />
<br />
Further searching with the term 'rivet maker' led me to<a href="http://www.spruecutters.com/others/105-trumpeter-hobby-rivet-maker.html" target="_blank"> this detailed review</a> on a product called the 'Trumpeter Hobby Rivet Maker'. Go have a look, I'll wait.<br />
<br />
The further I read, the more I liked this product - even if it was made from plastic, the last picture of the actual stitchmarks was pretty compelling! Still, I expected it to be pretty expensive, so I didn't get my hopes up as I searched for a dealer.<br />
<br />
Lo and behold I found a dealer a) in Australia, b) with cheap shipping ($2!) and c) with the product at the cheap price of $8.30! Of course I bought it right away.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
It arrived today, and it was with nervous apprehension that I opened the rivet maker, and gave it a go on a piece of cowhide.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jLTLvHqQzMI/UJn9ma0fpuI/AAAAAAAAB_w/9c2OBtmg6Zs/s1600/IMG_0492.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-jLTLvHqQzMI/UJn9ma0fpuI/AAAAAAAAB_w/9c2OBtmg6Zs/s1600/IMG_0492.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Well! Are you impressed? Because I'm impressed. Here's the breakdown:<br />
<br />
Excel (first on the left): 21 dots per inch<br />
<br />
Wheel D: 23 dots per inch<br />
C: 34 dots per inch <br />
B: 28 dots per inch<br />
A: 45 dots per inch<br />
<br />
(Then at the end is a line of A next to the Excel - big difference!)<br />
<br />
Aside from wanting to switch out the handle (the plastic feels cheap compared to the aluminium of the Excel), I love this thing, and can't wait to test it out!Daniellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604038874152094100noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8926691029122915071.post-15884228980820162952012-11-05T19:57:00.003+11:002012-11-05T19:58:20.831+11:00Leather delivery!Oh my god it smells SO GOOD.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FCHbYCRjVE8/UJd_BFJ8-CI/AAAAAAAAB9w/Qi7ckWfauCA/s1600/DSC_4698.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-FCHbYCRjVE8/UJd_BFJ8-CI/AAAAAAAAB9w/Qi7ckWfauCA/s1600/DSC_4698.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Now, what should I make with this abundance of beautiful colours?<br />
<br />
Edit: this was also my 100th post. Ooops, should have made it a bit more special I guess! Daniellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604038874152094100noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8926691029122915071.post-30297642829564107702012-10-24T16:59:00.001+11:002012-10-24T16:59:05.785+11:00I have a Monster.I answered a wanted ad on MHSP for someone looking for tack for their PS Drafter and when the customer agreed to work with me, I had to go and remedy my lack of PS Drafter bodies!<br />
<br />
Today this big boy landed on my doorstep.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9Y-J9CL1Z3I/UId_UUJ6sfI/AAAAAAAAB4Y/z78NoHdX6yw/s1600/DSC_4403.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-9Y-J9CL1Z3I/UId_UUJ6sfI/AAAAAAAAB4Y/z78NoHdX6yw/s1600/DSC_4403.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
This won't come as any surprise to people who have seen a PS Drafter in person before (or own one), but holy moley is he BIG! I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't this giant. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TIWTcNaa9Hs/UId_fMY5YPI/AAAAAAAAB4g/uko8-c5yHW4/s1600/DSC_4404.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-TIWTcNaa9Hs/UId_fMY5YPI/AAAAAAAAB4g/uko8-c5yHW4/s1600/DSC_4404.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
He is, obviously, just a body, so at some point I will give him a coat or five of gesso, just to make him all one colour. I won't do it right away though, as the first order for him is a white bridle, and we do need to be able to see it on him! I do like the flames drawn on his right side, though.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zQ1ruZkp-vU/UId_pXmjxDI/AAAAAAAAB4s/DIZiPmeyFmI/s1600/DSC_4405.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-zQ1ruZkp-vU/UId_pXmjxDI/AAAAAAAAB4s/DIZiPmeyFmI/s1600/DSC_4405.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I can't wait to get making some tack for that ginormous noggin!<br />
<br />
In other news, I have a lovely view of my garden from my room, and it's a great spot for blackbirds and white-browed scrubwrens to scurry about in the undergrowth. On one of the tree ferns, my Dad has hung an elkhorn, in which I thought a pair of tiny scrubwrens had been building a nest.<br />
<br />
Yesterday, I looked up and spotted a male blackbird making himself quite comfortable, sitting on top of the elkhorn/nest. Although I didn't think I'd have any success shooting through my filthy window, I grabbed my camera I took a few shots of the blackbird, and the scrubwrens hanging around nearby. They are a bit blurry and could use some editing, but I'd thought I'd share anyway. Enjoy!<br />

<br />
This adorable little spider phaeton was made for me by Reuben of <a href="http://www.kulpenterprises.com/" target="_blank">Kulp Enterprises</a>. It's black (all metal) with silver trim.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I even got single shafts to go with it so I can use the ponies on their own as well. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zv4_-MtIYcw/UIEaIJJb9II/AAAAAAAAB2w/w8g8zNPBk54/s1600/newcarts8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="138" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-zv4_-MtIYcw/UIEaIJJb9II/AAAAAAAAB2w/w8g8zNPBk54/s1600/newcarts8.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />Although I do eventually intend to get the ponies their scurry cart, I can't afford Bill Duncan's prices now (or ever, lol) so this phaeton was a bit of a test as Reuben didn't have any pictures of non-wooden carts on his site.<br />
<br />

<br />
I'm fairly pleased with it. I can just see Apollo or Tommy rocketing through a cones course now!<br />
<br />
Reuben also made me this adorable gig for Rosie.<br />

I just love the detail in the slats, and the stain on the wood.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Unfortunately I managed to botch the measurements and the shafts ended up too narrow for her fat Welshy-ness, so I have to send it back for a new set.<br />
<br />
In the meantime, I guess I have a couple of harnesses to work on!<br />

I don't think they turned out half bad!<br />
<br />
I was really taken by the yellow ('Daffodil') colour when it arrived, so I opted to create a yellow and black set for Ruffian. As I mentioned in my last post, I wasn't entirely sure if I would be able to create a seamless transition from the elastic insert to the nylon, plus I didn't know if superglue would be enough to hold them together. So I secured the end of the elastic with superglue, and the end of the nylon with Helmar Fray Stoppa, and when they were dry, sewed them together.<br />
<br />
Have some crappy iPhone photos.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-jJgtfXSNNWQ/UHta0EMnN0I/AAAAAAAABuk/ygrW024ay7g/s1600/IMG_0406.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-jJgtfXSNNWQ/UHta0EMnN0I/AAAAAAAABuk/ygrW024ay7g/s1600/IMG_0406.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
(No, I can't sew, so sue me. :P)<br />
<br />
Then I wrapped the join in leather and superglue, mostly as extra security to keep it all together, but also to protect the model from the scratchy edges of the elastic and ribbon.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hJEw9sorvkA/UHta943y4yI/AAAAAAAABus/f8VOY5N-kEw/s1600/IMG_0407.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-hJEw9sorvkA/UHta943y4yI/AAAAAAAABus/f8VOY5N-kEw/s1600/IMG_0407.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Ta-da! My first join. :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pCgMhYqnlyU/UHtbGwLbv6I/AAAAAAAABu0/oU7XgsLhc4w/s1600/IMG_0408.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-pCgMhYqnlyU/UHtbGwLbv6I/AAAAAAAABu0/oU7XgsLhc4w/s1600/IMG_0408.jpg" width="320" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I don't like how the grain on the two pieces goes in different directions, but that can't be helped.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately the first join was in vain, as the resulting girth...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tX2ILBFqKDk/UHtl_9f2FaI/AAAAAAAABx0/HYPMcR-K_AA/s1600/IMG_0425.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-tX2ILBFqKDk/UHtl_9f2FaI/AAAAAAAABx0/HYPMcR-K_AA/s1600/IMG_0425.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
ended up being too short. Oops! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rW8vICmauFM/UHtmHCRXUZI/AAAAAAAABx8/bfxbiJkhhyc/s1600/IMG_0426.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-rW8vICmauFM/UHtmHCRXUZI/AAAAAAAABx8/bfxbiJkhhyc/s1600/IMG_0426.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
But it was good practise for finishing off both the girth and surcingle. I even managed to put (non-working) rollers on all the buckles so it does up a little easier.<br />
<br />
The finished set:<br />

<br />
<br />
I tried using 1.5mm nailheads on the surcingle to replicate the studs on the real surcingles, but I think they are just too big for model scale. They don't look terrible per se, just not good enough to use again in the future. On the plus-side, I think the 2mm strap looks much better than the 3mm I've been using previously!<br />
<br />
When I get some racing stirrups (when I have cash lol) I will be selling this set.Daniellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604038874152094100noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8926691029122915071.post-32032131811460737442012-10-14T11:18:00.001+11:002012-10-14T11:18:10.287+11:00Lookit the colours!This is why I a) love working with coloured leather, and b) wanted to get into nylon surcingles and girths for my racing sets. The colour choices for the nylon are just ridiculous!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uzNbvYxbpCc/UHoDoJofPdI/AAAAAAAABso/9YtubNNs_fw/s1600/DSC_4137.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-uzNbvYxbpCc/UHoDoJofPdI/AAAAAAAABso/9YtubNNs_fw/s1600/DSC_4137.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So pretty.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pvTnw6TQQHM/UHoD-Jrha5I/AAAAAAAABs4/v1Ea48lWkXc/s1600/DSC_4139.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://lh3.ggpht.com/-pvTnw6TQQHM/UHoD-Jrha5I/AAAAAAAABs4/v1Ea48lWkXc/s1600/DSC_4139.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I picked colours that matched my leather, though I was hit-and-miss on some (three shades of purple, lol) since I was ordering online, and some I picked up just because they could be a fun highlight against black leather, like the turquoise (very bottom of the stack). They were cheap though - the 6mm 10-yard (9-odd metres) hanks were $1.93 each on special, and I bought matching 3mm hanks for about $1.25. The price may or may not have been part of the reason of why I bought so many...<br />
<br />
I'm working on a yellow set right now, which I will be posting about shortly, including my first foray into nylon surcingles.<br />
<br />

<br />Daniellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604038874152094100noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8926691029122915071.post-66741843775985936842012-10-06T12:52:00.002+10:002012-10-06T12:52:46.928+10:00Racing surcinglesSpeaking of racing tack... I use 6mm elastic for my racing surcingles and girths, which unfortunately limits the colour combinations as I can only find it in black or white. (There are no craft stores near me any more so I have to buy just about everything online, mostly form eBay.) And you know how colour-coordinated model people like to be!<br />
<br />
In my on-going research of model tack, I sometimes come across surcingles (overgirths) and girths that are synthetic and have elastic inserts, like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.zilco.com.au/attachments/Product/3784/681435_Full.jpg?ts=1306811818" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="101" src="http://www.zilco.com.au/attachments/Product/3784/681435_Full.jpg?ts=1306811818" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://thoroughbredsoffthetrack.com.au/images/sale/460_mums-horse-photos-216.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://thoroughbredsoffthetrack.com.au/images/sale/460_mums-horse-photos-216.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Right now, I don't like the way I have keepers on my surcingles. The method is basically a long strip of leather with (usually contrasting) keepers around it. It does the job, but I don't like the way it looks. It's difficult, if not down-right impossible, to attach keepers directly to the elastic like in the photo below - their narrowness, and the stretchiness of the elastic, means they generally don't last long (and the glue hardens the elastic, which can cause a potential scratching issue on models).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.greggrantsaddlery.com.au/images/big/RAC4590.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.greggrantsaddlery.com.au/images/big/RAC4590.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
So what I'd like to try is creating a surcingle that has the elastic insert, but also has the keepers directly attached. And I think the way to do this is with grosgrain ribbon (the nylon ribbon some tackmakers use for halters) in 6mm width.<br />
<br />
The benefit of having a synthetic girth on models allows for more colour combinations - and what could be better than that? And when I get my hands on some vertically-striped grosgrain from the States (<a href="http://ribbonqueen.com/store/index.php?cPath=3_32" target="_blank">just look at these beauties here</a>), I'll be able to do stripey combos as well.<br />
<br />
My only concern right now is the nail heads on either side of the keepers. I'm thinking I'll either need to drop the surcingle strap to the 2mm leather instead of 3mm (will probably help with the perspective of scale too) to fit the 1.5mm nailheads on, or revert to silver ink to simulate the nailheads. Oh, and how to attach the elastic to the grosgrain without causing a lot of bulk. Hmm!<br />

The pics have been sent to the customer; hopefully she likes it! This set will be used on her chestnut Affinity resin. This set will be jetting to the US with the red/black set I had on MHSP; both are going to the same owner, and will be my first sets in the US. Exciting!<br />
<br />
(Just realised it's missing nailheads. Face palm! They will definitely go on right now!)<br />

<br />
2 x traditional racing sets (one for a customer, one for sale)<br />
1 x classic bridle for Stacey before December<br />
1 x classic bridle for Lisa's D'Arry CM classic Haflinger<br />
1 x traditional lunge set for Stacey before December <br />
<br />
Then as always after a show, there are pieces of my tack that I need to fix or remake:<br />
<br />
2 x classic girths to make (one to be done before December)<br />
2 x classic bridles<br />
1 x stallion presentation surcingle (Doorstop's, before December)<br />
1 x trad Western bridle for Stacey<br />
<br />
Luckily I am all amped up and ready to work! Just need to finish that sale saddle so I can get some cash to buy more lace. I might have also bought two hides from Packers, too. >.> But one of them should (hopefully) be the fabled dark brown I am looking for!Daniellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604038874152094100noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8926691029122915071.post-77031355718815252802012-10-02T16:54:00.002+10:002012-10-02T16:54:25.709+10:00More leatherOccasionally I will google variations of "buy kangaroo leather" just to see if anything new pops up. Last weekend I discovered www.kangarooleather.com.au which is based in Tasmania, though it looked like they only sold hides. (At least they have some nice colours!)<br />
<br />
On a whim I dropped them an email asking if they had any remanant or offcut bags, and was delighted to find out 500g bags are only $10 plus shipping. So I snapped one up and requested browns, as I don't have any really nice browns at the moment.<br />
<br />
A few days later I received a huge lot of leather in two shades. According to the colour on the website, the tanny-one is 'roan' and the darker one is 'brandy'. I think there's also some 'saddle tan' in there too though I forgot to put it in the pic. Oops. The brandy is a lot lighter in person though.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qLc7QbAbWaw/UGqPHNGa_GI/AAAAAAAABnQ/dCMkbAmEF_E/s1600/IMG_0378.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qLc7QbAbWaw/UGqPHNGa_GI/AAAAAAAABnQ/dCMkbAmEF_E/s320/IMG_0378.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It's lovely and thin - less than 1mm but I'm no expert - and with more flexibility and softness to it than my hide from Amazing Lace. It skives nicely too, although right at this minute I can't get it paper-thin like I can the Amazing Lace. But I could just need a new blade.<br />
<br />
I can't imagine using the brandy colour at any point (it's the shade that chocolate goes when it's bloomy, or like milky coffee) so will probably make up a grab bag with some other stuff I have here and sell it on MHSP. But the roan and saddle tan will definitely stay!<br />
<br />I also picked up a grab bag of scraps off ebay for $5. According to the listing it's mostly kangaroo, but I don't know what the lady was thinking. There's all sorts of stuff in here.<br />
<br />
Here's the bag with the stuff I'm not keeping:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EIX-eqxaLsw/UGqPOSlqRBI/AAAAAAAABnY/hIXeWQz5ssk/s1600/IMG_0379.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EIX-eqxaLsw/UGqPOSlqRBI/AAAAAAAABnY/hIXeWQz5ssk/s320/IMG_0379.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
and the stuff I am keeping:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lC7VMgH7JN0/UGqPWjQ2VWI/AAAAAAAABnk/ujB8ogcEalw/s1600/IMG_0380.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lC7VMgH7JN0/UGqPWjQ2VWI/AAAAAAAABnk/ujB8ogcEalw/s320/IMG_0380.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I do think the neon might be fun! It's really thick but we'll see if I can skive that down.Daniellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604038874152094100noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8926691029122915071.post-10559235129610232152012-09-24T23:06:00.001+10:002012-09-24T23:06:18.630+10:00Performance Extravaganza Live Show 2012 - part 2 OFHere's the OF division from PEL this year. Pics after the cut!<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
Sadly the OF division had nowhere near the same numbers of entries as the CM/AR classes. Two of our entrants left as they weren't entered in this part of the show. Sad, but oh well.<br />
<br />
<br />
We ran with the same class list as for CM/AR, but as there were a lot less entries, we had a lot of empty classes. There were no harness entries, and only one Other Performance (dp. Last Chance, Honey aka Missy with her horse agility curtain.) I didn't get any pics as the curtain decided to break apart (again; I'd stuck it back together with sticky wax but it gave out). Luckily Karen was nice and gave me a ribbon for it anyway. :)<br />
<br />
There was a costume entry (there might have been more; I didn't see) on this cute rose grey Stone Arab:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CKMCIenjcIg/UGBRy3SjMII/AAAAAAAABhA/OnLTnSIfdKE/s1600/2012-09-23+132.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CKMCIenjcIg/UGBRy3SjMII/AAAAAAAABhA/OnLTnSIfdKE/s320/2012-09-23+132.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And in the Handler/Showmanship class there were three entries. Two were my Ariat mares:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fO6wKseLj-Q/UGBQzlhT4VI/AAAAAAAABgI/P-ZkU6X4EUg/s1600/2012-09-23+121.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fO6wKseLj-Q/UGBQzlhT4VI/AAAAAAAABgI/P-ZkU6X4EUg/s320/2012-09-23+121.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
and the third was a short-tail Lady Phase, owned by Carolyn Turner, who won the class.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gysW1L9r5hc/UGBQ-RupXyI/AAAAAAAABgQ/WIjLh2-D5fU/s1600/2012-09-23+127.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gysW1L9r5hc/UGBQ-RupXyI/AAAAAAAABgQ/WIjLh2-D5fU/s320/2012-09-23+127.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The Stone Arab went on to win Champion Other Performance, while Carolyn's entry took Reserve. :)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U-prjjrqvb8/UGBRJOpVtNI/AAAAAAAABgc/TVSe1P5lf0M/s1600/2012-09-23+128.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U-prjjrqvb8/UGBRJOpVtNI/AAAAAAAABgc/TVSe1P5lf0M/s320/2012-09-23+128.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8eG4YBmN_oc/UGBRTO_x4qI/AAAAAAAABgk/vAI9u9NI4VY/s1600/2012-09-23+129.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8eG4YBmN_oc/UGBRTO_x4qI/AAAAAAAABgk/vAI9u9NI4VY/s320/2012-09-23+129.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Onto the English classes! There were no entries for Other English, so we moved right along to Pleasure/Show Hack, which was won by dp. Flambeau (doesn't his hack entry look so much better on the base?), and second went to Missy. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LPbvsllzmPI/UGBRd9sx0CI/AAAAAAAABgs/9GEi6p56vDQ/s1600/2012-09-23+130.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LPbvsllzmPI/UGBRd9sx0CI/AAAAAAAABgs/9GEi6p56vDQ/s320/2012-09-23+130.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
In the Dressage class, Lisa's lovely PS Warmblood took the blue!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V-FLLZsFIDw/UGBRpDD6tVI/AAAAAAAABg0/Capth7zzmJs/s1600/2012-09-23+131.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-V-FLLZsFIDw/UGBRpDD6tVI/AAAAAAAABg0/Capth7zzmJs/s320/2012-09-23+131.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
After a rapid tack change (I really need to make an easy-remove competition number), Beau snuck into this class at the last minute too, but I don't remember how he did.Second, I think, since he was probably the only other entry.<br />
<br />
<br />
The last class in this category was English Arena Trail, in which Missy was the only entry. I didn't even get a pic, which is annoying, as I wanted to show you the adorable flowerpots I got!<br />
<br />
Champion English Arena went to Lisa's dressage entry, I think. I don't remember who picked up Reserve.<br />
<br />
There were no Cross Country/Showjumping entries, and Missy was the only entry in the Handy Hunter/Hunter Over Fences entry. Look, flower pots!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mh4gpNlE5Uo/UGBSITI95pI/AAAAAAAABhQ/GIBXNh_jnCg/s1600/2012-09-23+139.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mh4gpNlE5Uo/UGBSITI95pI/AAAAAAAABhQ/GIBXNh_jnCg/s320/2012-09-23+139.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />We dove into the next class, Mounted Games, with two entries, and only one was mine - woo! You might recognise Polo Pony from this post <a href="http://daleypark.blogspot.com.au/2012/08/quiet.html" target="_blank">here</a> where I discussed his awesome PVC bridle. The judge, Karen, really liked it too, enough to award him first place, even though I left his Association Game containers at home (after I worked so hard on them!) and subbed him into the Phone Book Race, and Karen was kind enough to ignore the fact that his borrowed explanation said he was trotting instead of galloping, lol! He was also wearing the wrong saddle... He was meant to be wearing the 'Wintec' (which is one of my smaller general purposes saddles, but the seat and knee pads look like the extra-grippy material they use on Wintec saddles) but Missy was still wearing it, so he got the ugly general purpose saddle.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3vo-pj1pwyk/UGBR9doOgGI/AAAAAAAABhI/zN80tskj6_c/s1600/2012-09-23+138.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3vo-pj1pwyk/UGBR9doOgGI/AAAAAAAABhI/zN80tskj6_c/s320/2012-09-23+138.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Polo Pony must have really impressed Karen, because she gave him the Champion chocolates, and Missy's Handy Hunter set up took Reserve. :)<br />
<br />
<br />
Now came the exciting Grand Champion English awarding! Lisa's PS Warmblood won a deserving Reserve Grand!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KEJYlwtoLH0/UGBSfCFmtmI/AAAAAAAABhk/sDCgGu-H78I/s1600/2012-09-23+144.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KEJYlwtoLH0/UGBSfCFmtmI/AAAAAAAABhk/sDCgGu-H78I/s320/2012-09-23+144.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And Polo Pony ran away with the blue!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AmglD0Pf8hY/UGBSv6v6IHI/AAAAAAAABhs/oR2Xy071qSo/s1600/2012-09-23+145.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AmglD0Pf8hY/UGBSv6v6IHI/AAAAAAAABhs/oR2Xy071qSo/s320/2012-09-23+145.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I was feeling a bit bad at this point (I never do this well at shows!) so was thrilled for Lisa when her Stone Performance Horse won first in the Western Pleasure Stock Breeds class. I love his colour!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qxfviZOAuUU/UGBS-wl3HDI/AAAAAAAABh0/j_iEcBRualw/s1600/2012-09-23+146.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qxfviZOAuUU/UGBS-wl3HDI/AAAAAAAABh0/j_iEcBRualw/s320/2012-09-23+146.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I had two entries in this class, a bay overo loping QH Mare (dp. Oak's Flyin High, aka Skye), and dp. Docs One Four Five, aka Fern. I don't have a pic of Skye, but Fern got second!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8dMSSnK49Ew/UGBTJdOrWEI/AAAAAAAABh8/5iTf5oOydac/s1600/2012-09-23+147.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8dMSSnK49Ew/UGBTJdOrWEI/AAAAAAAABh8/5iTf5oOydac/s320/2012-09-23+147.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I want to try and get Missy a DUN Merit award that includes cards from the three types of performance, so I raced to get Fern's tack onto her for the non-stock Western Pleasure class. It's a pretty ugly picture (brown saddle on a brown horse, lol) but she was the only horse in the class - and she got her Western DUN card!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BdAZhi87Hrc/UGBTTkklIDI/AAAAAAAABiI/AfyHZQGWAIM/s1600/2012-09-23+148.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BdAZhi87Hrc/UGBTTkklIDI/AAAAAAAABiI/AfyHZQGWAIM/s320/2012-09-23+148.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Trail came next, and Skye got first (!). The saddle she's wearing is a you-finish-it by Kirsteen Haley. I've had it for almost a year, and though I 'finished' it for PEL, I am going to take the decorations off and try again as I don't really like it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3H52gboGE20/UGBTpM39yRI/AAAAAAAABiY/P8ApJHEKoBo/s1600/2012-09-23+152.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3H52gboGE20/UGBTpM39yRI/AAAAAAAABiY/P8ApJHEKoBo/s320/2012-09-23+152.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Fern, I think, came third in the trail class, but no pics.<br />
<br />
From my pics it looks like Fern got Champion Western Arena Performance, and Skye got Reserve, but I'm not entirely sure if that's right. I'll come back and edit when the results are out!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_BUxE5kugA0/UGBTzzdrTVI/AAAAAAAABig/ozBdShCEae4/s1600/2012-09-23+154.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_BUxE5kugA0/UGBTzzdrTVI/AAAAAAAABig/ozBdShCEae4/s320/2012-09-23+154.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uwIHt1Ystho/UGBT-6-O5GI/AAAAAAAABis/fpnbZsxpy6Q/s1600/2012-09-23+155.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uwIHt1Ystho/UGBT-6-O5GI/AAAAAAAABis/fpnbZsxpy6Q/s320/2012-09-23+155.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Onto the last category of the day - Other Western! The first class up was Cattle Events, in which I had no entries, but Lisa had an EFC Stone Chips model, and cow. OMG the cow was just adorable. I think she's called it Brisket. lol.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8MOq_5riG4E/UGBUfVEsrQI/AAAAAAAABjI/_lGWDRlbXzQ/s1600/2012-09-23+161.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8MOq_5riG4E/UGBUfVEsrQI/AAAAAAAABjI/_lGWDRlbXzQ/s320/2012-09-23+161.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The other entry in the class was with a Nokota, who is owned by Carolyn.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qir4RsmeOOU/UGBUUXcsBiI/AAAAAAAABi8/AJHXNXdP4ww/s1600/2012-09-23+158.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qir4RsmeOOU/UGBUUXcsBiI/AAAAAAAABi8/AJHXNXdP4ww/s320/2012-09-23+158.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Onto Speed Games! Carolyn had a very pink barrel racing entry on her palomino Roxy (I don't know why this pic is sideways - sorry!),<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6WLZ093vaeA/UGBTeJqMogI/AAAAAAAABiQ/j0KVjYrk1J0/s1600/2012-09-23+150.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6WLZ093vaeA/UGBTeJqMogI/AAAAAAAABiQ/j0KVjYrk1J0/s320/2012-09-23+150.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
and I got to debut my super-special Evelyn Munday saddle on dp. Jetsettin Playboy, aka Rocky, with another barrel racing set up. I was stoked when he won! Go, little zoom-zoom pony! <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JYAmwzowaU4/UGBUIzh73vI/AAAAAAAABi0/hnZNJ3suX78/s1600/2012-09-23+156.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JYAmwzowaU4/UGBUIzh73vI/AAAAAAAABi0/hnZNJ3suX78/s320/2012-09-23+156.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The very last class was Other Western Performance. Lisa's Stone Chips won with his reining set up,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MPZopqFcdFA/UGBUqn-11CI/AAAAAAAABjQ/1x4iNmDLoEo/s1600/2012-09-23+163.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MPZopqFcdFA/UGBUqn-11CI/AAAAAAAABjQ/1x4iNmDLoEo/s320/2012-09-23+163.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
and Rocky came fourth with his reining set up after a quick rein-change. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W68tGvFmyaM/UGBU1eYSe5I/AAAAAAAABjY/jRt5WQX0yYg/s1600/2012-09-23+164.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-W68tGvFmyaM/UGBU1eYSe5I/AAAAAAAABjY/jRt5WQX0yYg/s320/2012-09-23+164.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Fern came third with a bareback entry (that that, judges who thing doll-less bareback entries should be banned!),<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_gDWapY9Gb4/UGBVLec8E3I/AAAAAAAABjs/R2WhZ9Bok3Q/s1600/2012-09-23+166.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_gDWapY9Gb4/UGBVLec8E3I/AAAAAAAABjs/R2WhZ9Bok3Q/s320/2012-09-23+166.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
and Skye got a second with a Western riding setup.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Gms2g2d0Oaw/UGBVAXWhv-I/AAAAAAAABjk/ChboRr4xeQo/s1600/2012-09-23+165.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Gms2g2d0Oaw/UGBVAXWhv-I/AAAAAAAABjk/ChboRr4xeQo/s320/2012-09-23+165.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
It's all downhill from here! Lisa's adorable Stone Chips model was awarded Reserve Champion Other Western Performance, and Rocky got Champion! Don't have pics of either, oddly enough.)<br />
<br />
<br />
But it gets better! Then he was awarded Grand Champion Western Performance!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GFb6kYABQoo/UGBVXGrzakI/AAAAAAAABj0/F1xQ6NhdvlI/s1600/2012-09-23+168.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GFb6kYABQoo/UGBVXGrzakI/AAAAAAAABj0/F1xQ6NhdvlI/s320/2012-09-23+168.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Reserve Grand went to Lisa's Stone Chips!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kcUxpLLisEc/UGBVib1IFoI/AAAAAAAABkA/c10qeziNnus/s1600/2012-09-23+169.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kcUxpLLisEc/UGBVib1IFoI/AAAAAAAABkA/c10qeziNnus/s320/2012-09-23+169.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And then we had to decide Supreme! To recap, it was out of the Arabian Costume entry (whose owners had gone home, so Karen used the photos on my camera), Polo Pony, and Rocky. I couldn't bear to watch, so I busied myself with packing up while Karen contemplated over the choice.<br />
<br />
Rocky was the eventual winner! I totally thought it would be the costume entry - it was a really detailed costume!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VDt_496zlvw/UGBVtT382rI/AAAAAAAABkI/YcAgogv3OmE/s1600/2012-09-23+171.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VDt_496zlvw/UGBVtT382rI/AAAAAAAABkI/YcAgogv3OmE/s320/2012-09-23+171.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
But little zoomy pony and his orange saddle took home the starry ribbon. Yay! Thanks Karen!<br />
<br />
I've gone from never winning a Supreme, to winning two in one day, plus two Grand Champions! I don't think it gets much better than this!<br />
<br />
Thank you, Lisa, for running PEL - I do hope we can put it on again in the future!Daniellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604038874152094100noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8926691029122915071.post-92040092265085920922012-09-24T21:05:00.004+10:002012-09-24T21:05:48.976+10:00Performance Extravaganza Live Show 2012 - part 1 - CM/ARThe second PEL show was on yesterday. Technically I co-hosted it with Lisa Winkworth, but she was awesome and did all the work, so she gets full credit for a brilliant show.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately, interest was low; aside from Lisa and myself, only four others turned up. Still, the competition was fierce! The show was divided into two divisions: CM/AR and OF, both with the same class list (roughly 18 classes each). We had a late start, with judging by Karen Grigson of Bluebird Studio fame beginning at 10.30am.<br />
<br />
Lots of pics after the cut!<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<br />
We started off with the Harness classes, of which there was only one entry - me! BFF Stacey made me a base when I was over in WA in July for Ultimate Gold, and dp. Dream Master, aka Teddy, got to have first go on it at the show.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WkDNClrm0Vo/UGAaSkUT6pI/AAAAAAAABXk/SotQD7LytdE/s1600/2012-09-23+030.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WkDNClrm0Vo/UGAaSkUT6pI/AAAAAAAABXk/SotQD7LytdE/s320/2012-09-23+030.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />Next up was Other Performance. Lionswood Benjamin, aka Doorstop (really. He weighs almost 1kg!) debuted for his first time around with a 'led' entry, and took first place! He has his own post <a href="http://daleypark.blogspot.com.au/2012/09/doorstop.html" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--hUexkeoFc8/UGAbMvVj-TI/AAAAAAAABXs/mGkqwVVVSxU/s1600/2012-09-23+031.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--hUexkeoFc8/UGAbMvVj-TI/AAAAAAAABXs/mGkqwVVVSxU/s320/2012-09-23+031.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />The next class was Open Costume. I didn't have any entries in this, but first place went to this Arabian costume entry, owned by Michelle Arthur.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HjiCs0PL4as/UGAbg2YEX7I/AAAAAAAABX0/IjL075uwqTs/s1600/2012-09-23+036.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HjiCs0PL4as/UGAbg2YEX7I/AAAAAAAABX0/IjL075uwqTs/s320/2012-09-23+036.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This Little Bo Peep entry in the same class took third, but was owned by resident performance queen, Katrina Sterry. I thought it was adorable!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VPqwhW18McQ/UGAbsTOotZI/AAAAAAAABYA/M9bYZSR-Ems/s1600/2012-09-23+037.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VPqwhW18McQ/UGAbsTOotZI/AAAAAAAABYA/M9bYZSR-Ems/s320/2012-09-23+037.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The last class in the Other Performance division was a combined Handler/Showmanship. I was thrilled when Fluffy (dp. Streetwise) took first place! Nabraska, another Sue Kern custom, was also entered here with an English Handler set up, but I don't remember how she went.<br />
<br />
I was a genius and forgot to bring the Champion lapels, so we used the chocolate awards as markers for the photos. Fluffy went on to take Reserve Champion Other Performance, and Doorstop took Champion! I was so excited, particularly as now he would be going up for Supreme Champion CM/AR now, against the Grand Champions of English and Western!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ctVB89PSExc/UGAb3wGJXEI/AAAAAAAABYI/ECKQ0yLhlws/s1600/2012-09-23+039.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ctVB89PSExc/UGAb3wGJXEI/AAAAAAAABYI/ECKQ0yLhlws/s320/2012-09-23+039.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2VymVAXeOJA/UGAchfl0joI/AAAAAAAABYQ/hofCF7-2Lh4/s1600/2012-09-23+038.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2VymVAXeOJA/UGAchfl0joI/AAAAAAAABYQ/hofCF7-2Lh4/s320/2012-09-23+038.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
English was up next, beginning with Other English Performance. I had two entries here, dp. Astral Fairy Wings (Rosie) and dp. Nabraska, both with PC Handy Mount set ups. Nab earned herself a DUN card by placing second,<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FlZb22lv34Q/UGAmgZKEMYI/AAAAAAAABag/ehS4feEq2Nk/s1600/2012-09-23+054.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xXPbOXIzQq0/UGAkxR_FejI/AAAAAAAABZE/RV0LOsEu_b0/s1600/2012-09-23+043.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xXPbOXIzQq0/UGAkxR_FejI/AAAAAAAABZE/RV0LOsEu_b0/s320/2012-09-23+043.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
and Rosie got fourth with her curtain set up. Does the curtain look familiar? It's my horse agility one Lisa made for me for ML!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VZAPzHuGwCE/UGAk8vLqFoI/AAAAAAAABZM/5zJziJx7zXA/s1600/2012-09-23+044.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VZAPzHuGwCE/UGAk8vLqFoI/AAAAAAAABZM/5zJziJx7zXA/s320/2012-09-23+044.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Katrina won with this cute leadline entry, which is a custom of the Breyer Polo Pony.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j4xfNUtZXJg/UGAklfDSQNI/AAAAAAAABY8/yr3Vl_vpi7g/s1600/2012-09-23+041.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j4xfNUtZXJg/UGAklfDSQNI/AAAAAAAABY8/yr3Vl_vpi7g/s320/2012-09-23+041.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
English Pleasure/Show Hack was next, and this was probably one of the biggest classes of the show.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5SAxbuqC6AE/UGAlHORQpgI/AAAAAAAABZY/EmiQZHRjOkQ/s1600/2012-09-23+045.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5SAxbuqC6AE/UGAlHORQpgI/AAAAAAAABZY/EmiQZHRjOkQ/s320/2012-09-23+045.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Dixie earned herself a very respectable second,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2oCRuQx-VPg/UGAlele7pUI/AAAAAAAABZo/WGdBkuJ3jzI/s1600/2012-09-23+047.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2oCRuQx-VPg/UGAlele7pUI/AAAAAAAABZo/WGdBkuJ3jzI/s320/2012-09-23+047.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
beaten only by a Katrina Sterry entry.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Z2Y7xKqm3jQ/UGAlSrsMV7I/AAAAAAAABZg/N4OvbtOx54s/s1600/2012-09-23+046.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Z2Y7xKqm3jQ/UGAlSrsMV7I/AAAAAAAABZg/N4OvbtOx54s/s320/2012-09-23+046.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Dressage was next, and I put Nab in her pony club saddle cloth, forgetting that her explanation card indicates she is competing EA. Whoops! That blooper knocked her down to fourth place.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RAvvIuVrdeg/UGAmrkpF2dI/AAAAAAAABao/DOvejhazorU/s1600/2012-09-23+056.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RAvvIuVrdeg/UGAmrkpF2dI/AAAAAAAABao/DOvejhazorU/s320/2012-09-23+056.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Lisa's two D'Arry entries came equal fifth. Her little Stablemate, DW Starstuck, won Supreme Exhibit at Mini Mania earlier this year.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Lv7O5K6Ut1k/UGAmVh6l5ZI/AAAAAAAABaU/eeaUHeScFSQ/s1600/2012-09-23+053.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Lv7O5K6Ut1k/UGAmVh6l5ZI/AAAAAAAABaU/eeaUHeScFSQ/s320/2012-09-23+053.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Her Hafling Pony custom was a new purchase, but I don't think the judge liked the bridle that D'Arry sent for her, so Lisa has asked me to make her a new bridle. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LpVrbbM0Ung/UGAmLzxz5PI/AAAAAAAABaM/mf_Um0RlUbY/s1600/2012-09-23+052.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LpVrbbM0Ung/UGAmLzxz5PI/AAAAAAAABaM/mf_Um0RlUbY/s320/2012-09-23+052.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Katrina won first place:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FlZb22lv34Q/UGAmgZKEMYI/AAAAAAAABag/ehS4feEq2Nk/s1600/2012-09-23+054.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FlZb22lv34Q/UGAmgZKEMYI/AAAAAAAABag/ehS4feEq2Nk/s320/2012-09-23+054.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
I think she took second too.<br />
<br />
<br />
After that we had English Arena Trail. I was supposed to have two entries in this class, but had to scratch Teddy as I forgot his bridle - d'oh! So Nabraska was left of the Daley Park team, and she was pinned third,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ERgpSam83FQ/UGAp1QXdZBI/AAAAAAAABb4/mfaIulyR05Y/s1600/2012-09-23+061.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ERgpSam83FQ/UGAp1QXdZBI/AAAAAAAABb4/mfaIulyR05Y/s320/2012-09-23+061.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
beaten by Katrina's balloon set up. (This won Supreme at Foothills Live back in 2009!)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xbumNfOvbLo/UGAnNVeNl8I/AAAAAAAABbE/qR38bjynNpM/s1600/2012-09-23+062.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xbumNfOvbLo/UGAnNVeNl8I/AAAAAAAABbE/qR38bjynNpM/s320/2012-09-23+062.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Katrina's other trail entry, this cute D'Arry custom, took second place.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SI_AJRY-pNo/UGAnaMi9Y2I/AAAAAAAABbM/AVQynTWj2PA/s1600/2012-09-23+063.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SI_AJRY-pNo/UGAnaMi9Y2I/AAAAAAAABbM/AVQynTWj2PA/s320/2012-09-23+063.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />I didn't get photos of who took Champion and Reserve, but I think Katrina's grey hacking entry took one of the placings.<br />
<br />
Next up we started the Other English category, with Cross Country/Show Jumping the first class. Teddy had an entry here too (I was really looking forward to using the jump Stacey made me) but again, he was scratched. First place went to Tanya French's deserving Stablemate entry.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SnElOXaZoto/UGAm3OyMkkI/AAAAAAAABaw/v2LxdG2yCpE/s1600/2012-09-23+057.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SnElOXaZoto/UGAm3OyMkkI/AAAAAAAABaw/v2LxdG2yCpE/s320/2012-09-23+057.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-slIsUC9HNnw/UGAnCyREJGI/AAAAAAAABa4/AlsMQq7Rr00/s1600/2012-09-23+059.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-slIsUC9HNnw/UGAnCyREJGI/AAAAAAAABa4/AlsMQq7Rr00/s320/2012-09-23+059.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
How cute is it? She made the tack as well as the jump, and CMed the horse. Multi-talented, for sure!<br />
<br />
Another of Lisa's D'Arry entries, over this adorable butterfly fence, took fourth.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-k2cKm7ZmeHc/UGAnltBMG7I/AAAAAAAABbU/QmEzPQQXaPY/s1600/2012-09-23+071.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-k2cKm7ZmeHc/UGAnltBMG7I/AAAAAAAABbU/QmEzPQQXaPY/s320/2012-09-23+071.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Handy Hunter/Hunter Over Fences was next, and Nabraska's entry here was scratched because I forgot the jump cups for her jump. Oops! <br />
<br />
<br />
Mounted Games was the next class, and this was exciting for me because I could FINALLY debut one of the two ponies Karen customised for me! dp. Astral Spaceman, aka Apollo, had a Saddle Race set up, which I borrowed one of Lisa's Pebbles saddles for. Unfortunately it doesn't fit him, though! He pinned second with this set up,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1d1klhEntcE/UGAnwlBXFzI/AAAAAAAABbc/X4zbXBY5bRE/s1600/2012-09-23+075.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1d1klhEntcE/UGAnwlBXFzI/AAAAAAAABbc/X4zbXBY5bRE/s320/2012-09-23+075.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
beaten by Katrina's Mindy Berg-customised Stormwatch. Stormwatch went on to be pinned Grand Champion English Performance,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Y5G24XL2qC8/UGAoGwZRabI/AAAAAAAABbw/1VeSIDIJGpI/s1600/2012-09-23+082.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Y5G24XL2qC8/UGAoGwZRabI/AAAAAAAABbw/1VeSIDIJGpI/s320/2012-09-23+082.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
while Tanya's adorable cross country set up took Reserve.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zwLcRxf6AIE/UGAn7IkEqvI/AAAAAAAABbo/YMpKdKxwHgE/s1600/2012-09-23+080.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zwLcRxf6AIE/UGAn7IkEqvI/AAAAAAAABbo/YMpKdKxwHgE/s320/2012-09-23+080.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Whew! Now we could start on the Western classes! We began with Western Pleasure Stock Breeds, which Katrina won with her Valor resin (I think it's Valor).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eUCNrjdbxrM/UGAuah99TkI/AAAAAAAABcw/coedFymavL0/s1600/2012-09-23+084.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eUCNrjdbxrM/UGAuah99TkI/AAAAAAAABcw/coedFymavL0/s320/2012-09-23+084.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Dixie took a respectable fourth.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gGrU5IVVFEY/UGAuN7ck-aI/AAAAAAAABck/6WqJ1nC_tC4/s1600/2012-09-23+083.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gGrU5IVVFEY/UGAuN7ck-aI/AAAAAAAABck/6WqJ1nC_tC4/s320/2012-09-23+083.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Lisa's Graylea Whisper resin took second. Woo, go Lisa!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ahro01cTYNc/UGAulWtljxI/AAAAAAAABc4/wsesU3uJnuc/s1600/2012-09-23+085.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ahro01cTYNc/UGAulWtljxI/AAAAAAAABc4/wsesU3uJnuc/s320/2012-09-23+085.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Next was a big Western Pleasure Other Breeds class. My two entries, Luna and Chip, took third and sixth. I didn't see who won.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uxcp8H4BWsI/UGAuwhDLrlI/AAAAAAAABdA/Qg-1sK44ZI0/s1600/2012-09-23+086.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-uxcp8H4BWsI/UGAuwhDLrlI/AAAAAAAABdA/Qg-1sK44ZI0/s320/2012-09-23+086.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UTJGatraOxQ/UGAu8HTMfWI/AAAAAAAABdM/hJliOWB40c8/s1600/2012-09-23+087.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UTJGatraOxQ/UGAu8HTMfWI/AAAAAAAABdM/hJliOWB40c8/s320/2012-09-23+087.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Western Arena Trail was next, and Katrina's big grey came back to win first place with this great gate entry.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BZAOnHj1L1E/UGAvTYfQ36I/AAAAAAAABdc/qZqFEz27zcI/s1600/2012-09-23+092.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-BZAOnHj1L1E/UGAvTYfQ36I/AAAAAAAABdc/qZqFEz27zcI/s320/2012-09-23+092.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Lisa got another red ribbon with Moonlight Serenade, who is painted by D'Arry.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5d8D1USeJFI/UGAvHiiRWmI/AAAAAAAABdU/tFZnXs3GNIw/s1600/2012-09-23+091.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5d8D1USeJFI/UGAvHiiRWmI/AAAAAAAABdU/tFZnXs3GNIw/s320/2012-09-23+091.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Chip took fourth, Luna fifth, and Dixie sixth.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EkY3ApemLVY/UGAvpShE1nI/AAAAAAAABdw/pg0lHqGVyqU/s1600/2012-09-23+095.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-EkY3ApemLVY/UGAvpShE1nI/AAAAAAAABdw/pg0lHqGVyqU/s320/2012-09-23+095.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XCxddHeIlvU/UGAvz_yf3PI/AAAAAAAABd4/0eSEylt5QqQ/s1600/2012-09-23+096.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XCxddHeIlvU/UGAvz_yf3PI/AAAAAAAABd4/0eSEylt5QqQ/s320/2012-09-23+096.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lksVsJFsqN0/UGAvephr2wI/AAAAAAAABdk/otQy6Ucfu84/s1600/2012-09-23+094.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-lksVsJFsqN0/UGAvephr2wI/AAAAAAAABdk/otQy6Ucfu84/s320/2012-09-23+094.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Then we had Champion Western Arena Performance, which went to two of Katrina's entries:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dp6CcDdhHo8/UGAv-bhd5UI/AAAAAAAABeA/RJmMXrcgi0w/s1600/2012-09-23+097.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dp6CcDdhHo8/UGAv-bhd5UI/AAAAAAAABeA/RJmMXrcgi0w/s320/2012-09-23+097.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DpG5bv_hDi4/UGAwJFf4E1I/AAAAAAAABeI/rIZ8Y5fJfAs/s1600/2012-09-23+099.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DpG5bv_hDi4/UGAwJFf4E1I/AAAAAAAABeI/rIZ8Y5fJfAs/s320/2012-09-23+099.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Cattle Events was the next class, which Katrina won with her Miss Moneypenny (who won Supreme TR/CL Exhibit at last year's PEL). I believe the other entry was Lisa's Whiplash, but I didn't grab a photo.<br />
<br />
After that we had Speed Games - yeehaw! Lisa took a blue with Whiplash,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-irFZNlKbvyo/UGAwU4V5KFI/AAAAAAAABeU/QYK8wAfmKw4/s1600/2012-09-23+102.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-irFZNlKbvyo/UGAwU4V5KFI/AAAAAAAABeU/QYK8wAfmKw4/s320/2012-09-23+102.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
and Katrina's Hazel resin (who won Supreme at Knox Live a few years ago, with a different entry), took second. The guy on the rug/tarp/thing got a few comments on his bright green top!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_92dFE2665k/UGAwgMy_uFI/AAAAAAAABec/SJxyfk7xvzo/s1600/2012-09-23+106.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_92dFE2665k/UGAwgMy_uFI/AAAAAAAABec/SJxyfk7xvzo/s320/2012-09-23+106.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Katrina's Western Riding entry (this model used to be a Matriarch!) won Champion,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NceiXTwHJYA/UGAwsAoBI3I/AAAAAAAABek/JfsUqDipvSs/s1600/2012-09-23+108.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NceiXTwHJYA/UGAwsAoBI3I/AAAAAAAABek/JfsUqDipvSs/s320/2012-09-23+108.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
while Reserve went to Lisa's Whiplash.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ONO9_Vl8xkM/UGAw5Y6s67I/AAAAAAAABes/MvHs7A2yQrw/s1600/2012-09-23+111.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ONO9_Vl8xkM/UGAw5Y6s67I/AAAAAAAABes/MvHs7A2yQrw/s320/2012-09-23+111.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And then Katrina's Valor took Reserve Grand Champion Western, and the Matriarch went Grand.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Hdk8iU4JfRw/UGAxFaQY9CI/AAAAAAAABe4/a7IFpoy7sB0/s1600/2012-09-23+112.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Hdk8iU4JfRw/UGAxFaQY9CI/AAAAAAAABe4/a7IFpoy7sB0/s320/2012-09-23+112.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
Judge Karen Grigson examining the three entries (Champion Other Performance, Grand English and Grand Western) up for contention for the Supreme Champion CM/AR award.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Huzzah! Lionswood Benjamin wins the big starry rosette!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eWyghnPrppU/UGAxlc6NnzI/AAAAAAAABfU/AAqAJCHSS5I/s1600/2012-09-23+116.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eWyghnPrppU/UGAxlc6NnzI/AAAAAAAABfU/AAqAJCHSS5I/s320/2012-09-23+116.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

Thank you, Karen! <br />

<br />
(Before you ask: yes, I really am that mean to my models. I have one named Fluffy; what did you expect?)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wVl0A9VmjjE/UF_fOHO7KeI/AAAAAAAABVw/4ir2c1BxAaU/s1600/studio-doorstop10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="260" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wVl0A9VmjjE/UF_fOHO7KeI/AAAAAAAABVw/4ir2c1BxAaU/s320/studio-doorstop10.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Lionswood Benjamin, stable name Doorstop, started out as a Christmas gift from my BFF Stacey. He's a classic-size BHR Drafter resin. There was a reason for his bargain basement price of $25 US - he was unpainted, but had been poorly prepped. After his purchase from MHSP, we sent him straight to the magical Gina Hyatt of Dog Hair Studio, who worked hard to remove his previous layer of primer, and restored the body to his smooth and detailed glory.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZtfMoBxLO4E/UF_fStNGs5I/AAAAAAAABWA/1-1asL2Xsoo/s1600/studio-doorstop2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="234" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ZtfMoBxLO4E/UF_fStNGs5I/AAAAAAAABWA/1-1asL2Xsoo/s320/studio-doorstop2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
She then passed him onto Karen Zorn. After some discussion I decided I wanted a Suffolk Punch, so sent her lots of reference pics and asked her to sculpt some mane bobbles, and braid his tail. She did just that, giving him gorgeous maroon and dark green ribbons, and changing the mould's swishy tail to one with some serious braided detail. Just check out that butt!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NdBjoBdLRoA/UF_fZlT0nJI/AAAAAAAABWg/NFAf234YSOY/s1600/studio-doorstop6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NdBjoBdLRoA/UF_fZlT0nJI/AAAAAAAABWg/NFAf234YSOY/s320/studio-doorstop6.jpg" width="267" /></a></div>
<br />
He arrived to me this past Tuesday, just a few days before a live show - the last one in my state of Victoria for a long time. Desperate to make sure he got out and shown before DUN (Australian version of NAN), I worked super hard to make him a stallion surcingle and bridle in time.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hjNqvaHpYiI/UF_fWFny4RI/AAAAAAAABWQ/JYcqNK_yRZQ/s1600/studio-doorstop4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hjNqvaHpYiI/UF_fWFny4RI/AAAAAAAABWQ/JYcqNK_yRZQ/s320/studio-doorstop4.jpg" width="204" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RBsKHkScUlU/UF_fUiYjHaI/AAAAAAAABWI/5Ga3xt4w46g/s1600/studio-doorstop3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-RBsKHkScUlU/UF_fUiYjHaI/AAAAAAAABWI/5Ga3xt4w46g/s320/studio-doorstop3.jpg" width="248" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vS20Rt6x7CY/UF_fX2mMBgI/AAAAAAAABWY/ds-ucSHAtvE/s1600/studio-doorstop5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="187" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vS20Rt6x7CY/UF_fX2mMBgI/AAAAAAAABWY/ds-ucSHAtvE/s320/studio-doorstop5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Did you know there is very little documentation online for showing Suffolk Punches? With little choice but to copy from photos and wing it, I scoured Flickr, tried to spot what was the most common, and copied that. The tack, as it tends to do, fought me the entire way. I redid both the surcingle and bridle twice before I was happy with them (read: I had no time to do them again). <br />
<br />
His doll is a custom Heidi Ott doll by the talented Joan Yount in the US, and she arrived just a day after Doorstop - talk about cutting it fine! She's dressed in the British style of light-coloured pants, and a 'tweed' jacket (Joan couldn't get tweed in scale, so we went for solid green). She doesn't have a name yet, but I think it will need to be something British.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MdmZCgSwjqg/UF_gSr0u9QI/AAAAAAAABW8/CGOKt-PGoEA/s1600/studio-doorstop9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MdmZCgSwjqg/UF_gSr0u9QI/AAAAAAAABW8/CGOKt-PGoEA/s320/studio-doorstop9.jpg" width="233" /></a></div>
<br />
I packed them up and carted them off to Performance Extravaganza Live Show this past Sunday, which is an all-performance live show, split by finish. He surprised me by winning his Other Performance class with his led entry (and hand-written explanation card!), and then going on to win Supreme Champion CM/AR, against some <i>seriously</i> tough competition. I've been going to live shows for over five years, and he was my first Supreme Champion - I was so ecstatic I very nearly cried!<br />

He wasn't in any danger of going anywhere before, but his win has cemented his place on my shelf!<br />

(I do plan on redoing his surcingle again. The leather I used is crap and coated, meaning any areas glued on the top tend to peel off, taking the coating with it (you can see it near the girth billets). I touched up the bare spots with Tandy Java dye for the show, but I think it will let me down if I were to use it at DUN. So, expect to see a set like this on here in the near future!)Daniellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604038874152094100noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8926691029122915071.post-60157408811035554432012-09-13T16:04:00.003+10:002012-09-13T16:04:37.640+10:00Here comes the pre-show panic...I'm sick at the moment (again) so while I would much rather be working on a bridle for once of Karen's ponies, I'm instead doing myt entry form for PEL, which is next Sunday. This show is <i>all</i> performance, split by finish (CM/AR and OF). There's no scene class, either. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6MHXi4J9xg0/UFF3UsWGVaI/AAAAAAAABSc/G3_XEfGgP0M/s1600/pel-entries.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="201" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6MHXi4J9xg0/UFF3UsWGVaI/AAAAAAAABSc/G3_XEfGgP0M/s320/pel-entries.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />Why yes, I am mad. I'm not showing my run list because our judge, Karen Grigson (yes, the Karen who CMed the ponies) will; be the judge, and I don't want her to know exactly what I'm bringing.<br />
<br />
Hope you will have had your Weet-Bix next Sunday, Karen!Daniellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604038874152094100noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8926691029122915071.post-52491990205026329422012-09-02T12:43:00.000+10:002012-09-02T12:43:09.416+10:00Tacky tackWhile brtowsing online today, looking for inspiration for a project, I stumbled across something that made my heart skip a beat.<br />
<br />
Anyone who knows me relatively well knows I'm obsessed with stars, so this little beauty went right into my reference file!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-02NOgrv7Yhc/UELGtV2W-_I/AAAAAAAABQA/vVFxGuOxNRM/s1600/bridleset1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="274" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-02NOgrv7Yhc/UELGtV2W-_I/AAAAAAAABQA/vVFxGuOxNRM/s320/bridleset1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It's got hair-on cowhide inside the stars (blegh), but can you imagine it with metallic silver inside? And that tooling! I need a barrel racer mare, stat!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Vq3Q6MEGOhA/UELGudVKYTI/AAAAAAAABQE/8NDV3qUP_BA/s1600/bridleset2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Vq3Q6MEGOhA/UELGudVKYTI/AAAAAAAABQE/8NDV3qUP_BA/s320/bridleset2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
They also had a heart-style version too.<br />
<br />
<br />
ONE DAY, I will find someone to make this star set, and a matching saddle, for me!<br />
<br />
I kept looking through their store, and then found this monstrosity, which inspired the title of today's post:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aYY4C6G5GUU/UELHUXEx-xI/AAAAAAAABQQ/8gYPJa8g4R4/s1600/tacky1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="281" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aYY4C6G5GUU/UELHUXEx-xI/AAAAAAAABQQ/8gYPJa8g4R4/s320/tacky1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Pz-n63XMRII/UELHVgPFxpI/AAAAAAAABQY/OnKcCENuR1k/s1600/tacky2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Pz-n63XMRII/UELHVgPFxpI/AAAAAAAABQY/OnKcCENuR1k/s320/tacky2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
It's metallic (coated leather, I suppose) with conchos and studs.<br />
<br />
<br />
I mean, I'm sure someone out there will love it, but it ain't me!Daniellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604038874152094100noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8926691029122915071.post-84499235133111161192012-08-20T21:02:00.000+10:002012-08-20T21:02:01.033+10:00Karen's PoniesI'm way behind the eight-ball in sharing these delights with you guys. This isn't a tack-related post - yet.<br />
<br />
Back in March of this year, fellow Victorian and general all-around-awesomeness-personified Karen Grigson posted on Blab, looking for commissions for her customising work. Knowing the quality of her work (she sculpted the Graylea Whisper (classic!) resin last year), I jumped on it like a shot, but didn't expect at all to have an order that would interest her, let alone even get in in the first place.<br />
<br />
Surprisingly, not only had the slots not been filled by that time, but she also took an interest in one of the suggestions I offered for her to choose from: a pair of classic Welsh Ponies for a harness pair.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.mikewatts.com/hdt2011/Windsor9Sep2011/IMG39410.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://www.mikewatts.com/hdt2011/Windsor9Sep2011/IMG39410.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The above is the original picture I sent for her to work from. (Photo from the fantastic <a href="http://www.mikewatts.com/">Mike Watts</a>.)<br />
<br />
In just a few short months, the ponies were finished. I just about squealed when Karen sent me photos the first time.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-V528Db5O8nI/UDIYY_5no2I/AAAAAAAABM0/F-xiqDlxcxU/s1600/DSC_3243.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-V528Db5O8nI/UDIYY_5no2I/AAAAAAAABM0/F-xiqDlxcxU/s320/DSC_3243.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />

<br />
<br />
Affectionately named 'Legs Up' and 'Legs Down' for now, the ponies are a true testament to Karen's talent. Would you have guessed that they were from Breyer Midnight Tangos?<br />
<br />
Just look at those expressive Welshy faces!<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
About a month ago, I sent them off to Deb Brown in the UK to be finished. My original choice was for them to be bright flaxen chestnuts with one of the ponies in sabino, but at the last minute I changed my mind and went with smutty buckskin, and let Deb choose who was the sabino one, and the markings on them both. My only request was that they be similar but not exact. In halter they will be in the same breed classes together - I wanted them to at least be in different colour classes!<br />
<br />
<br />
There's a group on Facebook called the Deb Brown Appreciation Society. Some of the members had reported that their CMs had taken six months or more to be finished, so I took measurements for the ponies and sent them off, content to work on their tack while I waited for them to come home.<br />
<br />
Clearly Deb had different ideas, as barely two weeks later she sent me photos of the finished ponies!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-88-7OoIcT14/UDIZCTt-8NI/AAAAAAAABNQ/IlWp7IaHYSw/s1600/karenponies1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-88-7OoIcT14/UDIZCTt-8NI/AAAAAAAABNQ/IlWp7IaHYSw/s320/karenponies1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
They will be in the mail tomorrow. Mail from the UK generally takes about two weeks, but they will still, unexpectedly, be in time for Performance Extravaganza Live Show on September 23. I guess I better get working on those bridles, then!Daniellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604038874152094100noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8926691029122915071.post-39559692089227481642012-08-12T15:51:00.005+10:002012-08-12T15:51:35.402+10:00Quiet...I don't have a lot to stay at the moment. I've been ill this week and too sooky-la for my own good. And definitely not working on any tack.<br />
<br />
I finished the Polo Pony's bridle and breastplate last Sunday.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mALbA3Qy-CU/UCdD06x2h0I/AAAAAAAABLQ/eVAQPWAyro0/s1600/polopony1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mALbA3Qy-CU/UCdD06x2h0I/AAAAAAAABLQ/eVAQPWAyro0/s320/polopony1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I thought about putting on a running martingale, but his head is already high up. I also thought about putting white padding on the breastplate, a ha this one here, but I think the white would be too stark against his shoulder. Black would blend in more nicely, but his bridle has white highlights. Oh well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GQcsUdE_g4A/UCdD2Tfpe0I/AAAAAAAABLY/xe8ihTKkW5w/s1600/polopony2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GQcsUdE_g4A/UCdD2Tfpe0I/AAAAAAAABLY/xe8ihTKkW5w/s320/polopony2.jpg" width="272" /></a></div>
<br />
You can't see it too well in the photos, but his bridle is all working tongue buckles. I do have a post drafted away half-heartedly in my head about my tongue buckle discovery. Maybe I'll get to it one day.<br />
<br />
I also kind of wanted to make a saddle to show with at PEL, but I don't think that's going to happen. There's still a month to the show, but knowing how well I procrastinate... yeah. I wouldn't even get the pattern finished before then, realistically.<br />
<br />
Daniellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604038874152094100noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8926691029122915071.post-4945714327425148202012-07-23T18:03:00.001+10:002012-07-23T18:10:15.235+10:00Speaking of live shows...I'm hosting Performance Live Extravaganza (PEL) with Lisa again in September. But this year, we are doing things a little differently - splitting by finish, rather than size. The minis had a poor turnout, so we're hoping this should balance things out a little bit more. I personally am really excited for it, as I have a few OFs that usually get beaten by resins and it will be fun to see how they do on their own.<br />
<br />
Late last year, I picked up a Breyer Polo Pony on a bit of a whim, thinking he would be a good games pony.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://dogperson.org/DPS/equines/Breyer/breyerclc/classi42.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="http://dogperson.org/DPS/equines/Breyer/breyerclc/classi42.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
(Pic from this random place here:http://dogperson.org/DPS/equines/Breyer/classic.htm)<br />
<br />
<br />
This guy is older than me - he was released in 1974 and was available until 1982. He's in pretty good nick for his age, although his base is a bit warped. That's a shame, because the Polo Pony has a weird triangle-shaped peg in the foot which makes a temporary base almost impossible. :(<br />
<br />
While he would be a good polo entry (obviously), I don't have time to make all the wondrous strap goods that a polo pony wears, nor do I want to add slits to one of my existing saddles to make it a polo one. So into the games class he shall go - but which game should he be playing?<br />
<br />
There is sword lancers (bit difficult without a doll to hold the sword!):<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IhYCnxGjRIE/UAz-aUHusQI/AAAAAAAABE8/q9EJswUJMko/s1600/DSC_1300.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IhYCnxGjRIE/UAz-aUHusQI/AAAAAAAABE8/q9EJswUJMko/s320/DSC_1300.JPG" width="320" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1wkjcPWJhEw/UA0BTu80mQI/AAAAAAAABFg/EMTWCtwTuJY/s1600/DSC_0156.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1wkjcPWJhEw/UA0BTu80mQI/AAAAAAAABFg/EMTWCtwTuJY/s320/DSC_0156.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Pole bending aka Speedweavers (probably too fast for this one):<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5u_octOXt5E/UAz-xX4304I/AAAAAAAABFE/6s-wjHu5uxg/s1600/DSC_2581.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5u_octOXt5E/UAz-xX4304I/AAAAAAAABFE/6s-wjHu5uxg/s320/DSC_2581.JPG" width="214" /></a></div>
<br />
Maybe he can do Socks and Buckets:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XN2th53_vx4/UAz_UH2wpNI/AAAAAAAABFQ/x_PAzELvJyY/s1600/DSC_2611.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XN2th53_vx4/UAz_UH2wpNI/AAAAAAAABFQ/x_PAzELvJyY/s320/DSC_2611.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
or Litter Lifters (look at the air on that pony!)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-P6HXfGLNDWM/UAz_zZd_4JI/AAAAAAAABFY/GJzPPQuDhzI/s1600/DSC_2650.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-P6HXfGLNDWM/UAz_zZd_4JI/AAAAAAAABFY/GJzPPQuDhzI/s320/DSC_2650.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Or maybe even the Associate Race:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JHEXm7vvVcg/UA0EJPuGA3I/AAAAAAAABGI/5XsAyJOUYMk/s1600/DSC_1250.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JHEXm7vvVcg/UA0EJPuGA3I/AAAAAAAABGI/5XsAyJOUYMk/s320/DSC_1250.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
While I haven't decided yet, you can be sure he will be wearing an obnoxious, fluoro 'PVC' bridle!<br />

<br />
And maybe some crazy boots for good measure!<br />

<br />
<br />
I will also have my BHR Drafter resin home from Karen Zorn by then as well. He looks like <a href="http://www.equineresindirectory.com/showhorse.asp?horseid=10273"><b>this</b></a>, only Karen has added some wonderful detailed mane and tail ribbon bob thingys. <br />
<br />
I don't have any dolls that are appropriately dressed for an in-hand class, and I think that might rule him out of ground driving too. He's not going fast enough for Jennifer Buxton's famous draft horse barrel racing, so I don't know what that leaves for him. Any ideas?Daniellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604038874152094100noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8926691029122915071.post-2552837400105568152012-07-17T21:06:00.001+10:002012-07-17T21:10:34.305+10:00Ultimate Gold 2012BFF Stacey ran Ultimate Gold live show over the weekend, and I flew in for a 46-hour visit so I could attend and help out.<br />
<br />
With a small number of entrants, it was intimate and relaxed, with a small class list. I was super-prepared for performance - that never happens! - and the venue, which we'd never used before, was a comfortable size, with great facilities.<br />
<br />
With us we had new-to-model-horses Juanita, who has lots of experience in the real horse world, but was pretty unfamiliar with hobby. Still, with a little guidance she made a great judge. She looked after performance, collectability and CM/AR halter; Stacey judged workmanship, and I judged OF halter.<br />
<br />
Let's get into the photos. There's a lot, so jump behind the cut to have a looksee.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q1HzSl-W7M4/UAUty5M35tI/AAAAAAAAA8g/_L8soJLssSw/s1600/DSCN0066+%2528Large%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q1HzSl-W7M4/UAUty5M35tI/AAAAAAAAA8g/_L8soJLssSw/s320/DSCN0066+%2528Large%2529.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Judge Juanita examining the entries in the first class of the day, English Flatwork....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F-zxIIetJyI/UAUtz0uU8HI/AAAAAAAAA8o/5RSw7nWKTtQ/s1600/DSCN0067+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F-zxIIetJyI/UAUtz0uU8HI/AAAAAAAAA8o/5RSw7nWKTtQ/s320/DSCN0067+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
...which was won by Stacey's Deputed Duke, shown as Redwood Princeton (I think). <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UdJ2mUQrFcg/UAUtvuqAg0I/AAAAAAAAA8Y/x7xWoE6NkmY/s1600/DSCN0166+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f7P_rCaUqsc/UAUt1MQDJ0I/AAAAAAAAA8w/s-F_BiVUgl0/s1600/DSCN0068+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-f7P_rCaUqsc/UAUt1MQDJ0I/AAAAAAAAA8w/s-F_BiVUgl0/s320/DSCN0068+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Stacey also got 5th with her Ricardo resin. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EfyelmS4pP0/UAUt2NzhlMI/AAAAAAAAA84/rQRVNE70AM8/s1600/DSCN0070+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EfyelmS4pP0/UAUt2NzhlMI/AAAAAAAAA84/rQRVNE70AM8/s320/DSCN0070+%28Large%29.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
There were two Darcys on the table in this class - the buckskin is owned by Stacey, and this bay is owned by Lauren Islip of Four Corners Tack. <br />
<br />
I had two entries in this class: Nabraska, in her dressage set up (and the only entry on the table without a doll), and Rosie in her leadline setup. I don't remember how they did - they might not have placed at all.<br />
<br />
Next up was the other English class, English with Obstacles. Nabraska got 2nd with her trail entry - yay! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-M0dnyRo8DVY/UAUt4TxUB0I/AAAAAAAAA9I/Qm6QA6Ti9sc/s1600/DSCN0076+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-M0dnyRo8DVY/UAUt4TxUB0I/AAAAAAAAA9I/Qm6QA6Ti9sc/s320/DSCN0076+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RyVTiWnlzwA/UAUt3ABjF7I/AAAAAAAAA9A/4cawwRc1Cog/s1600/DSCN0074+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div>
<br />
And Stacey's Darling resin won first place, also with a trail set up. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Vo8g4GXYwMw/UAUt5Fvs2gI/AAAAAAAAA9Q/U8Avc8D7iNU/s1600/DSCN0078+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Vo8g4GXYwMw/UAUt5Fvs2gI/AAAAAAAAA9Q/U8Avc8D7iNU/s320/DSCN0078+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Onto Western, and the first class was Western Pleasure. Stacey continued to sweep up, with her Knightly Cadence resin taking first with tack and doll borrowed from Lisa Winkworth. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L0U6LuLK_kU/UAUt6UN1iHI/AAAAAAAAA9Y/EtoW4rW5IP0/s1600/DSCN0079+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L0U6LuLK_kU/UAUt6UN1iHI/AAAAAAAAA9Y/EtoW4rW5IP0/s320/DSCN0079+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
My three entries got 3rd (Khalisah), <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rW592fEc2Xw/UAUt7YjzxyI/AAAAAAAAA9g/74l2vWQruMs/s1600/DSCN0080+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rW592fEc2Xw/UAUt7YjzxyI/AAAAAAAAA9g/74l2vWQruMs/s320/DSCN0080+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
fourth (Firestar Lady), <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-I0oO5oG72PU/UAUt8TbkOCI/AAAAAAAAA9k/ZvHDRCZxMZs/s1600/DSCN0081+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-I0oO5oG72PU/UAUt8TbkOCI/AAAAAAAAA9k/ZvHDRCZxMZs/s320/DSCN0081+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
and 5th (Deal Me In). <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ldHIH3dvYqU/UAUt9rLVgeI/AAAAAAAAA9w/4ctIoQ-ULug/s1600/DSCN0082+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ldHIH3dvYqU/UAUt9rLVgeI/AAAAAAAAA9w/4ctIoQ-ULug/s320/DSCN0082+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Lauren's entry with this model came second. This model is painted by Deborah Brown, who I am sending some models to very soon. I hadn't seen any of her work in person before this. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RyVTiWnlzwA/UAUt3ABjF7I/AAAAAAAAA9A/4cawwRc1Cog/s1600/DSCN0074+%28Large%29.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RyVTiWnlzwA/UAUt3ABjF7I/AAAAAAAAA9A/4cawwRc1Cog/s320/DSCN0074+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The second and final Western class was Other Western Performance. Stacey got another blue with Redwood Riff Raff.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qPAxZ1rCvfk/UAUt_JqaiZI/AAAAAAAAA94/zB2aQDyUf6g/s1600/DSCN0083+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qPAxZ1rCvfk/UAUt_JqaiZI/AAAAAAAAA94/zB2aQDyUf6g/s320/DSCN0083+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This other Reiner (I think owned by Lauren Islip?) won second. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L2ePMaw-Y88/UAUuAEdhJzI/AAAAAAAAA-A/diE5Eb8JSCA/s1600/DSCN0084+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-L2ePMaw-Y88/UAUuAEdhJzI/AAAAAAAAA-A/diE5Eb8JSCA/s320/DSCN0084+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
My entries took fourth (Firestar Lady), fifth (Khalisah), sixth (Deal Me In) and nothing (Streetwise). <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r1lQexzF7Mc/UAUuBLmJDxI/AAAAAAAAA-I/rLBuFvGOXZs/s1600/DSCN0085+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r1lQexzF7Mc/UAUuBLmJDxI/AAAAAAAAA-I/rLBuFvGOXZs/s320/DSCN0085+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The next class was a combined Handler/Showmanship class. Dear Nab took first! She is a Sue Kern custom; the doll is by Joan Yount, and the bridle is by Robyn McCrae. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YfNhEKFLn4Y/UAUuCCpXr2I/AAAAAAAAA-U/HEcMd1P8DXo/s1600/DSCN0087+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YfNhEKFLn4Y/UAUuCCpXr2I/AAAAAAAAA-U/HEcMd1P8DXo/s320/DSCN0087+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I was thrilled to discover little Fluffy took second! This little Western doll is also by Joan, and is the first time she has been shown with Fluffy. She was ordered specifically for him and they were supposed to debut at Melbourne Live, but Fluffy was still in the mail back from Sue and didn't arrive in time. New doll doesn't have a name, but I REALLY love her little hat!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eUCQC6oXE1g/UAUuDaMmhwI/AAAAAAAAA-c/FZlNUd3IZQY/s1600/DSCN0088+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eUCQC6oXE1g/UAUuDaMmhwI/AAAAAAAAA-c/FZlNUd3IZQY/s320/DSCN0088+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Rosie took third, with (you guessed it), a Joan Yount doll. Rosie's bridle is by Robyn McCrae,m although I did her ribbon browband, and competition number holder. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QJQwNp3HDqI/UAUuEVVzJOI/AAAAAAAAA-k/5kyUbNkxHp8/s1600/DSCN0089+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QJQwNp3HDqI/UAUuEVVzJOI/AAAAAAAAA-k/5kyUbNkxHp8/s320/DSCN0089+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The final performance class was Other Performance. Lauren Islip's Dante resin won equal first place... <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6LfPfJk9-1o/UAUuFjTYw2I/AAAAAAAAA-s/uhjecLrMIhU/s1600/DSCN0095+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6LfPfJk9-1o/UAUuFjTYw2I/AAAAAAAAA-s/uhjecLrMIhU/s320/DSCN0095+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
...with Stacey's Willoughby resin, in his first time out in harness. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IQNDxw5fKMg/UAUuHuPvNHI/AAAAAAAAA-8/TD-E8bXcpOo/s1600/DSCN0097+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IQNDxw5fKMg/UAUuHuPvNHI/AAAAAAAAA-8/TD-E8bXcpOo/s320/DSCN0097+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Stacey's Ringo resin, painted by Karen Zorn, won second (not sure of the doll, but his parade set is by Marilyn Fowler), <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-t_kTPr89sMY/UAUuGucWDGI/AAAAAAAAA-0/QSd3L-RgyMY/s1600/DSCN0096+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-t_kTPr89sMY/UAUuGucWDGI/AAAAAAAAA-0/QSd3L-RgyMY/s320/DSCN0096+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
An Arabian costume entry, which I don't have a photo of, won third, and poor Fluffy in his last-minute, half-hearted Horse Agility set up came last/fourth.I'm not at all surprised, his handler isn't in the right clothing, he shouldn't be wearing a show halter, and the ring is a bit chunky, but really I just wanted to beef up the class numbers. ;) I knew he didn't have a hope!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r38LOLasLLM/UAUuIjodplI/AAAAAAAAA_E/ZcSY_3zXicQ/s1600/DSCN0098+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r38LOLasLLM/UAUuIjodplI/AAAAAAAAA_E/ZcSY_3zXicQ/s320/DSCN0098+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Redwood Princeton took Reserve Grand Champion Performance, <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t1WpCPj2C5I/UAUuJ0UXEvI/AAAAAAAAA_M/9jpzBSSCU-Y/s1600/DSCN0106+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-t1WpCPj2C5I/UAUuJ0UXEvI/AAAAAAAAA_M/9jpzBSSCU-Y/s320/DSCN0106+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And her Knightly Cadance took Grand. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-j1CQWwqFXgQ/UAUuLHvBaII/AAAAAAAAA_U/_GoCmgZ9W5Y/s1600/DSCN0107+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-j1CQWwqFXgQ/UAUuLHvBaII/AAAAAAAAA_U/_GoCmgZ9W5Y/s320/DSCN0107+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Next came Workmanship. On the far left we have the traditional/classic Professional Repaint class, and on the right, the minis. And before you say anything, the micros are not all mine! There are about 38 minis in that class. Poor Stacey!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n6dUTAPT8H4/UAUuMWUWeJI/AAAAAAAAA_c/7QEUsD6BvZg/s1600/DSCN0114+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-n6dUTAPT8H4/UAUuMWUWeJI/AAAAAAAAA_c/7QEUsD6BvZg/s320/DSCN0114+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Stacey proxied for our friend Lisa, and her Working Girl, painted by Sommer Prosser (I think) won the mini workmanship class. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-E7-apA-Ks7s/UAUuO8ZftgI/AAAAAAAAA_s/LVCA3ZQEoAY/s1600/DSCN0117+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-E7-apA-Ks7s/UAUuO8ZftgI/AAAAAAAAA_s/LVCA3ZQEoAY/s320/DSCN0117+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Another of Lisa's horses, DW Starstruck, won the Pro Repaint/Reposition class, won Champion Workmanship, and Reserve Grand Champion Non-Halter. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iZhmNQaW1ZM/UAUuSI_i0iI/AAAAAAAABAE/mj5wOtys6l4/s1600/DSCN0128+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iZhmNQaW1ZM/UAUuSI_i0iI/AAAAAAAABAE/mj5wOtys6l4/s320/DSCN0128+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This lovely OF Spago won the single Collectability class and Champion Collectability, and then took Grand Champion Non-Halter. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-C1d1Cbz4ldo/UAUuTVKlBNI/AAAAAAAABAM/FfnYLI8DrbQ/s1600/DSCN0130+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-C1d1Cbz4ldo/UAUuTVKlBNI/AAAAAAAABAM/FfnYLI8DrbQ/s320/DSCN0130+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Stacey's custom Weathergirl won the CM/AR Arabian breed class, <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-x9GjWkKvldU/UAUuUc6mJII/AAAAAAAABAU/lUZBuWcVHPs/s1600/DSCN0131+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-x9GjWkKvldU/UAUuUc6mJII/AAAAAAAABAU/lUZBuWcVHPs/s320/DSCN0131+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
and her Darcy won the CM/AR Other Light Breed class. <br />

<br />
I was judging OFs, so between that and the very small classes, I won't have a lot of photos.<br />
<br />
The Spago that won Champion Collectability took Champion OF Breed, <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zIGDfTiUh7Q/UAUulqtOxsI/AAAAAAAABCY/ngYRsQ79E0M/s1600/DSCN0156+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zIGDfTiUh7Q/UAUulqtOxsI/AAAAAAAABCY/ngYRsQ79E0M/s320/DSCN0156+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And Reserve went to this Huck. I think it is TS Black Tie Affaire, an SR from last year? <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nlgm4SoD2kU/UAUunI6qTAI/AAAAAAAABCg/sirXp6EvqoY/s1600/DSCN0157+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nlgm4SoD2kU/UAUunI6qTAI/AAAAAAAABCg/sirXp6EvqoY/s320/DSCN0157+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Stacey's little Josh, a Newswerthy, won his colour class. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/---m_0CAzfxk/UAUuoDbEAHI/AAAAAAAABCo/xuN6xXkSe-o/s1600/DSCN0158+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/---m_0CAzfxk/UAUuoDbEAHI/AAAAAAAABCo/xuN6xXkSe-o/s320/DSCN0158+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And her glossy Heartbreaker took second. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-frbSA9dRMJs/UAUupHbyI-I/AAAAAAAABCw/gm8gGVOM9sU/s1600/DSCN0159+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-frbSA9dRMJs/UAUupHbyI-I/AAAAAAAABCw/gm8gGVOM9sU/s320/DSCN0159+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I think the Spago went on to take Grand Champion OF, and then it was the battle of the three Grand Champions for Supreme Champion!<br />
<br />
Spago took Supreme,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Vb0S8kvcwE8/UAUuqE6FmbI/AAAAAAAABC4/2OvCdJOH5so/s1600/DSCN0160+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Vb0S8kvcwE8/UAUuqE6FmbI/AAAAAAAABC4/2OvCdJOH5so/s320/DSCN0160+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And Stacey's Duke went Reserve to him. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HI3szw7ksYk/UAUurR_gfBI/AAAAAAAABDA/C7ywxL-qnDI/s1600/DSCN0161+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HI3szw7ksYk/UAUurR_gfBI/AAAAAAAABDA/C7ywxL-qnDI/s320/DSCN0161+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Sweet newbie Maddy won Reserve Grand Champion OF with her Sato. She was thrilled with her rosette!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fCf0KlW-lcg/UAUusSUEoBI/AAAAAAAABDI/BeI8OPMh6dg/s1600/DSCN0166+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fCf0KlW-lcg/UAUusSUEoBI/AAAAAAAABDI/BeI8OPMh6dg/s320/DSCN0166+%28Large%29.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Robyn's son Brandon took great delight in wearing Spago's rosettes for the rest of the day while we packed. He was a great little photographer too! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8nD7zR-5RRE/UAUut9wQ36I/AAAAAAAABDM/0XeR1KInzl0/s1600/DSCN0167+%28Large%29.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8nD7zR-5RRE/UAUut9wQ36I/AAAAAAAABDM/0XeR1KInzl0/s320/DSCN0167+%28Large%29.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
On Monday, I received an order of syringe needles.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-H89i10RHjd8/T_Ukb6MZjUI/AAAAAAAAA7o/ctIWaSQv24s/s1600/DSC_3237.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-H89i10RHjd8/T_Ukb6MZjUI/AAAAAAAAA7o/ctIWaSQv24s/s320/DSC_3237.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-olUVoNB0-gI/T_UklY4qcKI/AAAAAAAAA7w/K_hcGcMmEsc/s1600/DSC_3238.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-olUVoNB0-gI/T_UklY4qcKI/AAAAAAAAA7w/K_hcGcMmEsc/s320/DSC_3238.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Yes, really. A fellow Australian tackmaker uses these little beauties to punch holes in her bridle straps. I didn't make the connection that hypodermic needles would have thinner metal than that on mechanical pencils, so unfortunately I ordered too small (0.4mm and 0.3mm, respectively). I
will place another order later today for some larger sizes. Luckily they are fairly cheap (less than $10 for a box of 100, plus postage). I really truly hope these work for me, as I am anxious to move onto tongue buckle bridles already!<br />
<br />
Then on Tuesday I received a new tube of glue.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fxQZcFbPWsU/T_UkuzEZT2I/AAAAAAAAA78/ehilCtSFpPM/s1600/DSC_3239.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fxQZcFbPWsU/T_UkuzEZT2I/AAAAAAAAA78/ehilCtSFpPM/s320/DSC_3239.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
A couple of weeks ago I was getting super frustrated with the silver plates on a bridle I was making, so turned to the achieves of the Modelhorsetack Yahoo Group. One of the brands that got a few mentions was this E6000 glue, and I used eBay to find a seller. I haven't used it yet, but will later today! I need a couple of silver halters for Ultimate Gold Live.<br />
<br />
Then on Wednesday I received my order of a hide from Amazing Lace, the company I purchase my pre-dyed lace from.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TUrnZlqyLO0/T_Uk2ts9sXI/AAAAAAAAA8E/v5NOCNbbzFY/s1600/DSC_3240.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TUrnZlqyLO0/T_Uk2ts9sXI/AAAAAAAAA8E/v5NOCNbbzFY/s320/DSC_3240.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Oh leather, glorious leather! I may have spent a few embarrassing moments clutching the hide to my face. Amazing Lace's leather always smells so good. It has a few blemishes, but there is so much of that glorious, practically invisible grain I love so much that I can ignore a few marks. ;)<br />
<br />
And then last but not least, I got more leather today!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YajBFr3mEW4/T_Uk_mbtVcI/AAAAAAAAA8M/qhwWPArEwxA/s1600/DSC_3241.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YajBFr3mEW4/T_Uk_mbtVcI/AAAAAAAAA8M/qhwWPArEwxA/s320/DSC_3241.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is bookbinding kangaroo leather, from Packers, a tannery in QLD. This leather comes recommended by Lauren Islip of Four Corners Tack, over in WA (who I will be meeting at UG - eek!). She bought a few hides and really liked them, so I jumped on the bandwagon and ordered some too, one in black and the other in brandy. They are seconds, but at $15 a pop, I'm not complaining!<br />
<br />
It's a bit thinner than my Amazing Lace hide, and the brandy is a bit glossier than I would like, but I'll play with it and we'll see how we go. Bonus: the brandy hide is positively ginormous! I've got no hope of ever using it all up!<br />
<br />
Oh, and last week I got a new bottle of gum trag (I can't believe I've almost finished the first one, haha),and a bottle of Edge Kote in black, as well as a nylon edge slicker and some wool daubers. I've actually been using the Edge Kote on the last English saddle - it works surprisingly well. I didn't think I would need it since the Amazing Lace leather is pre-dyed, but it just helps to neaten up the grey edges (which aren't all that grey in real life, but catch the camera flash awfully well).<br />
<br />
Any tips on storing these hides? I don't have anywhere flat to lie them out. Should I leave them whole, or cut them into large chunks? That's what I've been doing with my scraps, but I'm not sure if it's the ~correct~ method.Daniellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12604038874152094100noreply@blogger.com0
